SIGHTS, SOUNDS AND SENSATIONS

Review submitted by Dennis
Review date 15 Feb 2017

I have been an Assistant Research Officer in Costa Rica on the Big Cats, Primates and Turtles projects for the past 4 months, with two left, and can honestly say I feel incredibly fortunate to have been given the chance to do this. For me this has been an amazing experience on both a professional and personal level. I have gained so much more than I envisaged in terms of ecological and personal experience, it is true you get out what you put in. The staff I have been in touch with from the training at London HQ and here in Costa Rica have been immensely friendly and supportive as well as very understanding when personal matters have arisen. There is some amazing stuff going on out here both volunteer wise and ecologically that I cannot describe in words and can only say, come out and you’ll see what I mean. I feel very blessed to have been given the opportunity to do this as I realise not everyone gets the chance to live and experience the rainforests of Central America like this. Frontier are continually trying to improve and that is clear with their work ethic and I hope in time they can continue to provide more support for the science side of projects in terms of more equipment and supplies as there are great opportunities and people to carry out some amazing studies here. I have been at the heart of coming up with a new bird project out here which has been a fulfilling experience and one I know will stand me in good stead when I return home to push to become an ecologist. Whether you’re coming here for a break between school and Uni, or Uni and work, or to gain some conservation experience. Do it. Come with an open mind and the amount of new sights, sounds, sensations and experiences you’ll gain from it are too numerous to list and it is all thanks to Frontier that you can do that in a friendly and positive environment with like minded people.
