WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

Sydney Welcome Tour (7 days)

You will start the tour in Sydney where our coordinators will explain everything you need to know, helping you organise your bank card, tax file number and mobile SIM. Then we’ll take a guided walking tour of Sydney including Circular Quay, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Opera House and the Botanical Gardens.

Following group introductions and a short info session about working and travelling around Australia, we’ll take a cruise of the stunning Sydney Harbour on our catamaran and check out the sights including Darling Harbour, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Fort Dennison, Luna Park and Watson’s Bay!

From here it’s on to our basecamp! We’ll depart the city for 3 days and 2 nights, to an area famous for its stunning beaches, amazing sand dunes and abundance of Aussie wildlife, including dolphins, whales, koalas, echidnas and possums. We’ll get the adrenaline pumping by jumping in our 4WD heading up the enormous nearby sand dunes to try epic sand-boarding, followed by a delicious BBQ dinner and drinks around the campfire in the evening. If that’s not enough, an amazing dolphin watching cruise awaits! Get up close to wild bottlenose dolphins, relax on deck, or ride in the boom net while dolphins swim underneath you, and keep your eye out for turtles and whales!

Once we have arrived back in Sydney, get ready for a fun night on the town Aussie style! Meet up at one of our favourite party bars before heading out on our Sydney pub crawl. We’ll visit 4 bars in the city and receive a free drink at each one! On your last day we’ll take a tour along Sydney’s beautiful cliff-top coastline, from Coogee to Bondi, checking out six stunning beaches along the way. It’s the perfect way to unwind after an awesome first week in Sydney!

Australia Surf Camp (5 days)

Set your own pace on our amazing surf camp. Whether you’re a complete novice, or already king of the waves, our experienced surf instructors will be on hand to guide you and improve your technique. As the days go by, you will develop your skills and knowledge to go surfing independently. You will spend full days on the beach and in the water, focusing on the theory and practice of surfing, each day gaining more ocean knowledge, developing your board skills and your understanding of the ocean. Our coaches will be surfing with you every step of the way.

This surf camp has unique access to 12 different surf breaks all within 30 minutes drive of the base camp; including our beach out the front of our surf camp. Every morning, like professional surfers, we check weather conditions and surf the best break to suit those conditions. This means we could be surfing a beautiful Point Break one day and an amazing Back Beach the next or 4WD* up the beach to find a perfect sand bank. This means your progression will develop faster and you’ll be able to enjoy surfing independently even quicker and feel at one with the waves!

*Point Break, Back Beach, and 4WD are surfing jargon terms. If you didn’t know this don’t worry, you’ll know the surfing lingo in no time!

Oz Experience (up to 6 months)

The Oz Experience is an adventure experience company first and a bus travel company second. While each pass is unique, they all visit some of the most incredible places the East Coast of Australia has to offer.

The Banana Bender Pass

The Banana Bender pass includes lots of travel flexibility including hop-on, hop-off, 12 months to begin your travel and then 6 months to finish it - fitting perfectly if you are searching for other tours and adventures in Australia. With stops outside popular hostels, the bus pass is a great way to meet fellow likeminded travellers.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

We’ll pre-arrange your airport transfer to our accommodation hostel in the city. Before departure you will receive a shuttle bus voucher to present to the driver at the airport. You will then be driven to your hostel in comfort with no worries, ready to begin your adventure with the ultimate tour of Sydney!

Please aim to arrive in Sydney on the weekend, as your tour will start on the Monday of each week.

Following your Sydney tour you will be met at the pre-arranged meeting point in Sydney on Monday morning at 7:15am and taken to the surf camp. You will arrive at our lodge around 2pm and will be out in the water surfing for the afternoon, possibly until the sun goes down. Surf all day Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning. After lunch on the Friday; around 2pm, you will depart and return back to Byron Bay, arriving at 8pm, where you will be responsible for making your own way to Brisbane, your start destination for your Oz Experience pass. You choose when you want to move onto the next destination on your route. Equally, if that destination doesn’t appeal to you, you can travel straight through to the next place. The choice is yours. You are advised to book the next leg of your journey at least 3 days in advance (longer in busier periods) to ensure a seat on the bus of your choice.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

During your Sydney tour and surf camp you will be provided with comfortable, clean, shared accommodation. The volunteer facilities include a kitchen, internet, laundry, toilets, showers, and lockers, whilst you will be sharing a room with other volunteers (mixed sex), the perfect way to make a load of new friends for your travels!
Accommodation is not provided during the Oz Experience phase of the project.
The Oz Experience is all about flexibility. You can choose where you stay and we'll do our best to get you there. Between the popular east coast route of Brisbane to Cairns, part of the drivers job is to help you book or assist you with your accommodation bookings. You can typically expect to be paying around £10 per night for a comfortable and clean dorm.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

Australia is well known for its variety and quality of awesome food, so you’ll definitely never be left feeling hungry. The Sydney tour and Oz Experience is self catered, which means that you will shop and cook for yourself, apart from the two days you’ll be spending at the base camp on the Sydney tour, where we will provide you with three meals a day. Joining your fellow travellers in rustling up an evening meal is a great way of bonding with them, so make sure you dig out a few tried and tested recipes before you set off! There are plenty of places to buy fresh food including lots of fruit and vegetables, giving you the chance to venture out into the bustling Sydney area and experience day-to-day life.

At the surf camp you will be provided with three meals a day. The food will have a strong focus on healthy, wholesome meals to satisfy your hunger after a long day of surfing. You’ll definitely never be left feeling hungry after one of our meals!

Visas

For fast, efficient and up-to-date visa advice please contact our recommended visa consultancy partner:

Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Please see the appropriate country consular website for details or contact our affiliate visa consultancy service. Please note that your visa will usually start on the date that you enter the destination country regardless of when it was issued. Please check with the relevant embassy or high commission. If you are purchasing your visa or paying entry/exit fees in-country you will probably need to pay in US Dollars. If you have any questions please consult the relevant embassy or high commission. Please check the visa information regularly, as changes often happen without warning.

Insurance

You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel insurance at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Your insurance should include the following:

  • Medical cover, including medical emergencies and medical evacuations (up to USD$3,000,000 / GBP£2,000,000);
  • Personal liability (up to USD$1,500,000 / GBP£1,000,000);
  • Cancellation and curtailment of your trip (up to the value of your project contribution).

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.
