WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
Your adventure will begin as soon as you arrive at the hostel in Tokyo, here you will have the opportunity to acclimatise and meet your Adventure Leader for an important briefing and orientation.
Day 1: Tokyo
After settling in to your surroundings and meeting your fellow travellers, the first days will be dedicated to discovering Tokyo. You will admire the incredible view of the city from the top of the famous Sky Tree. You will then head to one of the busiest district of Tokyo and experience the famous Shibuya crossing. You will end your day relaxing at a local Onsen, ready for your adventure ahead.
Day 2: Tokyo
During your second day in Tokyo you will be given the opportunity to prepare your own sashimi breakfast supervised by a local sashimi master in the city’s iconic Tsukiji fish market. Following this unique experience, you will visit the town of Akihabara and finally explore one of the city’s most popular areas for the famous Maid Cafes.
Day 3: Tokyo
The third day will be mainly dedicated to sumo, wrestlers and Samurai! You will be taken to the city’s sumo district where you will discover the wrestlers’ lives and training regimes. You will also visit the Edo-Tokyo Museum and learn more about the history of Japan and try your hand at Samurai!
Day 4: Tokyo
During your last day in Tokyo, you will be visiting the primary residence of the Emperor of Japan: the Tokyo Imperial Palace located in the beautiful Chiyoda Park. The second half of the day will be an afternoon of traditional-modern contrast, where you will spend some time in the quirky centre of J-pop culture in Harajuku and enjoy a drink or two in Shibuya!
Day 5: Kamakura
A train journey will take you to the medieval capital of Kamakura. Here you will spend some time relaxing and exploring the town’s shrines and the Great Buddha statue at the Kotoku-in temple. You’ll have some time at the beach, maybe trying your hand at surfing with the sunset in the backdrop!
Day 6: Mount Fuji, Hakone
A cable car will lead you to Japan’s mountainous town of Hakone, known for its hot spring resorts. The area is also in the perfect location to gaze at Mount Fiji in all its glory on a clear day. To better admire the stunning views, a pirate ship will take you across the Lake Ashi for a perfect end of the day.
Day 7: Kyoto
A train to Kyoto will take you to the heart of Japanese traditions in the Geisha district. After learning more about the traditions of ancient Japan, you can enjoy a delicious and authentic meal surrounded by a true Japanese atmosphere of wood panels and lanterns.
Day 8: Arashiyama
A day in nature. During your 8th day you will hike through the Arashiyama bamboo forest and the Arashiyama Monkey Park. From the top of the park you will enjoy great views of Kyoto! The tour guide will then take you on to a rafting adventure down the Hozugawa River which will take you right by Arashiyama district’s most impressive temple, Tenryu-ji. After relaxing in the surrounding gardens, you can try Japanese’s’ favourite pastime: Karaoke!
Day 9: Kyoto
To recover from karaoke night, you will have an un-guided morning. It will then be time to head to Fushimi Inari. In this truly remarkable place a hiking trail will take you through a corridor of thousands of parallel red rows of gates called Senbon Torii. It’s a must see site!
Day 10: Kyoto
If you like cycling, this will be one of your favourite days! You will cycle around Kyoto, taking in all the sights and ancient architecture, before taking a train heading west.
Day 11: Hiroshima
At Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, you will have the chance to learn more about the tragic past of Hiroshima, how it has recovered and what its mission is today. A ferry will take you to the Itsukushima shrine where you will enjoy the wonderful view of the shrine, which is built above lapping water.
Day 12: Osaka
To round off your Japanese adventure, you cannot miss the megacity of Osaka. Your day here will be full of endless options for entertainment, food and drinks! While you are there, don’t miss the chance to enjoy a dinner overlooking the water and taste some Kobe beef!
Day 13: Osaka
Take your morning to wander around the streets of Osaka before saying goodbye to your travelling companions and catch the train to Tokyo to finish your adventure.
