WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?
You will be met at the airport by the project staff and taken to your placement.
WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?
You will be staying in a shared volunteer/student house.
WHAT WILL I BE EATING?
You will receive lunch every day that you are at the community centre, but will be responsible for purchasing and preparing other meals. Your accommodation will have facilities enabling you to do this, or you can take the opportunity to sample some of the numerous cafes and restaurants in the city. Argentina is well known for its good food, and in particular the fantastic local produce. You may like to venture out into the city and try some of the food on offer in local restaurants and market stalls. If you are a meat eater you might like to try a steak, which are world renowned! Buenos Aires certainly has a lot to offer the eager explorer, and the bustling street stalls and colourful markets beckon you to immerse yourself in this wonderfully diverse culture. Look out for some delicious meat dishes, such as beef cooked ?asado style?, or parillo, which is grilled sausage served with salad. Empanadas are also a national favourite ? these half-moon shaped pastries can be filled with a range of ingredients such as meat and vegetables. If you have a sweet tooth, then Dulce de Leche will be right up your street! Specific diets and vegetarians can be accommodated.
HOW WILL I GET TO WORK?
Based in Argentina's most exciting city, you will use public transport or walk your way around the streets, absorbing the sights and sounds of this Latin hub. Your local coordinators will be happy to help you master the public transport system and in no time you'll be making your way around like a porteno. Your journey to your work placement could take up to an hour but is all part of the cultural immersion you will enjoy while on your project, seeing everything through the eyes of a local.
