Panama Island Teaching Experience

Make a positive and rewarding contribution to the lives of adorable children and create unforgettable lasting memories in beautiful Panama!

Prices from US$695

Panama remains one of the lesser travelled countries of Central America, giving its visitors a unique insight into the charm of Latin America away from the tourist crowds that are seen in Costa Rica and Guatemala.

Experience working in a school on a tropical island and be surrounded by loving and adorable school children. The school is small and there is always a need for extra hands to help provide the children with the quality education that they need. This is the perfect opportunity for you to develop your own skills and help teach the children English.

Even after your work at the school there will still be ample time to enjoy yourself in beautiful Panama. Relax on the breath-taking beaches, listening to the enchanting sound of the waves, practising your surf skills or getting lost on an adventure hike through the luxuriant forest. Panama has everything you could dream of and more from a volunteer project destination.

WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

The Frontier-Panama Island Teaching Experience has been developed with the local community in Bocas del Torro and gives you the opportunity to improve your conversational Spanish while giving back to the children of this island community. This project will give you the opportunity to assist local in-country staff in caring for and teaching some of Panama’s lovable and adorable school-children. This will also give you the chance to see Panama in a different perspective and share your knowledge and experience with the young students to enhance their conversational English which is incredibly valuable to the children that live in this popular tourist destination.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

As a volunteer you may be required to assist local school teachers delivering and supporting English language classes. You may also have the chance to prepare classes, help with homework, organise games and other such school activities. Your work at the school may generally be in the morning from 8 am to 12 noon so you will definitely have plenty of free time to play with the kids afterwards!

Bringing along donated story books and other teaching materials is also a great way to engage your students as such items are always appreciated to give the kids a more interactive learning experience.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

You will be met upon arrival at Bocas del Toro Airport by a friendly local staff member and escorted to your accommodation in the main town. You will have time to settle in and get acclimatised before receiving orientation to the country, local surroundings and of course your project. Your in-country coordinator will be more than happy to help you with any questions you have and you'll feel at home in no time in this friendly, vibrant community. Please aim to arrive on the Sunday.

If you would prefer we can arrange an airport arrival package from Panama City at a cost of USD $240, please speak to your Frontier Advisor for further information.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

You will be staying in shared dormitory style accommodation at a friendly, local guesthouse where you will have the opportunity to experience the real Panama. You will be located close to the language school.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

Food is not provided as part of this programme. This is a fun element of travelling away from home as it gives you that added freedom and is a good opportunity to bond with fellow travellers while exploring local restaurants and market stalls! You will get the opportunity to tantalise your taste buds with local delicacies including crisp meat filled empanada pastries and heavenly spicy stews, doused in a fusion of Caribbean and South American flavours and washed down with locally brewed balboa cerveza, enjoyed on the waterside.
