WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

The favelas of Rio are so much more than the negative image that is portrayed in films, they are living, breathing, thriving communities; they are welcoming places where children play and the smell of freshly baked bread wafts through the tightly packed streets. The favela tour of Rio offers you an incredible insight into one of Rio’s central favelas, Rocinha, balanced high up on the hillside overlooking the bay. You will start at the top of the favela and walk down the hill with a professional guide connected to this amazing community. A percentage of the tour fee goes straight back into the favela community, directly helping to support a number of initiatives aimed at getting kids off the streets and people back into work, such as art projects, building classrooms and visits to local businesses.

This tour lasts approximately 3 hours running from 10am – 2pm on weekdays and from 12pm on weekends.

Go ahead, change your perspective of Rio and its inhabitants and join this once in a lifetime opportunity!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

You will be collected at either 10 am (weekdays) or 12 pm (weekends) from your central Rio hostel by a friendly Frontier representative and taken in a mini bus to the start of the tour. We provide pick-ups from hostels in Lapa, Santa Teresa, Catete, Botafogo, Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

Accommodation is not included within the price of this programme, however we are happy to recommend a number of potential hostels, please speak to a Frontier Travel Advisor for more information.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

Food is not included within the price of this project so please bring additional funds to cover what you need. Whilst on the tour you will visit a local cake shop and café, located inside the favela, giving you the opportunity to put some money back into this wonderful community.
