WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

No visit to Rio de Janeiro would be complete without visiting the world famous sites of this natural harbour.

This one day intro tour is the perfect way to begin your Brazilian adventure, providing you can drag yourself away from the stunning beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana, and put aside the caiparinhas, to explore the must see sights of Rio with fellow like-minded travellers.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

You will be taken to the feet of Christ the Redeemer, towering above the city, before visiting the cosmopolitan neighbourhood of Santa Teresa, famed for its cafes and capoeira dancing in the street. Then it’s on to Cathedral before visiting the Lapa Steps, made famous by Michael Jackson in his video ‘They Don’t Care About Us’. Finally you will end the day by taking the cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain to watch the evening sun envelope this incredible city!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

You will be collected at 1pm from your central Rio hostel by a friendly Frontier representative and taken in a mini bus to the start of the tour.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

Accommodation is not included within the price of this programme, however we are happy to recommend a number of potential hostels, please speak to a Frontier Travel Advisor for more information.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

You will be responsible for your own food whilst in Rio de Janeiro. Local restaurants and markets will be worth exploring if you wish to try the local cuisine. The locals tend to eat late so head out for an evening meal after 9pm if you want to avoid the tourists. If you are staying in Rio for a long time $50 per week should be sufficient for basic diet but make sure you take a bit extra for treats and luxuries!

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

There are so many activities to try here that you certainly won't be short of things to do in your spare time. Frontier offers a number of volunteering opportunities in and around Rio de Janeiro including orphanage work and healthcare opportunities. Alternatively why not try and catch a football match at the Maracana Stadium or take a tour of a favela, made famous by the film ‘City of God’. And if all this gets too much simply kick back and relax on one of Rio’s many beaches!
