The aim of this Quito-based project is the care and education of disabled and underprivileged children. It is based in a school with around 130 students, from kindergarten to grade five. The project provides vocational workshops for disabled teenagers, medical attention, rehabilitation, after school programmes and recreational activities. The Centre also provides accommodation for some disabled children.

There are a broad range of activities that volunteers can undertake, depending on their interests and experience. Areas of work available to those with specific experience include medical care, rehabilitation, social work and teachers' aids. Other activities include assistance with recreation for both disabled and able-bodied young children, daily care for disabled children, construction and maintenance work, office work, cooking and cleaning. Volunteers should be flexible, enjoy working with children and should be willing to adapt to a new culture and different environment.

You'll fly into Quito where you'll be met by the friendly in-country project staff. You will then be taken to your accommodation, giving you time to settle and adjust to your new environment. You will receive project orientation and briefing before starting work.

You'll stay at a clean and friendly Quito-based homestay in either your own room or in a shared room with one or two other same sex volunteers. This is a fantastic way to really get to know the local people and experience true Ecuadorian lifestyle.

You will be provided with two meals a day in the homestay; breakfast and dinner. Your diet will consist of a variety of nutritious and delicious local dishes. Vegetarians will delight in the varieties of rice and bean combinations that are available!
