WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

This project takes place in the vibrant capital city of San Jose.  You will be attached to a language school and will have access to its facilities and social events.

You will help teach conversational English as well as playing games and doing arts and crafts with these underprivileged children and you'll quickly improve your Spanish as you make friends with your friendly hosts.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

You will help out with the running of the school which may include marking pupil's work, producing inspiring lessons, assisting teaching staff and helping with the general administration of the school. As well as this you will have the opportunity to help with lots of extracurricular activities which will vary extensively depending on your personal skills and interests - whether it be helping set up an after schools sports club, organising a choir, or helping with a school play; however be aware you will be expected to use your initiative if you want to run these kinds of activities as the staff at the school are already very busy! Whatever you decide, you are sure to gain huge satisfaction from inspiring these children, whilst enhancing your own skills and experience significantly.

Your preferences can be discussed and your individual work programmes arranged with your volunteer coordinator on arrival.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE?

You will be met at San José Airport by a helpful local staff member, who will escort you to your accommodation. During the first few days you will attend orientation and introduction to the life, culture, language and projects in Costa Rica. After this you be given instructions for how to reach your project site by bus. Please arrive on a Sunday.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

During the project you will be staying in a friendly homestay within the community, carefully screened to provide you with a welcoming, friendly home environment. Your accommodation will be clean and comfortable with all the basic facilities.

WHAT WILL I BE EATING?

You will enjoy 2 delicious meals a day made from fresh locally sourced fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, and, of course, beans, tortilla and rice!
