Teaching English as a Foreign Language

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

Teaching English as a Foreign Language is a fantastic way to make the most out of your gap year. Gain valuable skills and experience while you immerse yourself and contribute to the life and work of a local community. There are a number of TEFL certificates, courses and qualifications available to new teachers through Frontier and we have developed these to be able to offer three levels of TEFL experience for you to choose between:

TEFL Certificate (FREE)

This is available on all Frontier teaching projects of 4 weeks and more. All you have to do is carefully prepare with the aid of our extensive TEFL Handbook, then complete a logbook during your project to show 20 hours of teaching experience. Send these back to us at the end of your trip and you will receive a Frontier TEFL Certificate.

TEFL Certificate + two day residential training course (£100)

Spend two days learning the basics of English language teaching and sharing ideas with other teaching volunteers. You will gain experience, get some practice and start your project ready to jump straight into the classroom! The training course is compulsory for all TEFL BTEC candidates but is also open to anyone else who wishes to gain the qualification! See this document for more information and to apply. It is not neccesary to be registered on a Frontier volunteering placement to take part in this course.

BTEC Advanced Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (£300)

For an extra £300 volunteers taking part on teaching projects for 4 weeks or more also now have the unique opportunity to take part in this new and exclusive BTEC qualification. Accredited by Edexcel as a level 3 course this enables you to take part in an intensive and informative training weekend and finish your project with a formal and internationally recognised qualification.

Why spend time teaching abroad?

English teachers are one of the most frequently requested resources from the communities, schools and organisations that Frontier works with. Having the ability to read and write English makes a valuable difference to the people within these communities as it gives people the chance to apply for higher paid jobs, substantially improving their standard of living. Volunteer teachers help us fulfil the demand from the underprivileged communities in which Frontier works, and help build a more stable future in which to move forward.

If you’re thinking of gaining a qualification with us and you would like to discuss your options further, why not give our dedicated Training Supervisor a call on 020 7613 2422. Julia has an in-depth knowledge of all of our  qualifications and will be able to find the right one to make the most of your volunteer project.

Alternatively, to arrange call back, feel free to email training@frontier.ac.uk.
