Certificate of Personal Effectiveness
To achieve the ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness Level 3 you have to gain 15 credits by completing the required number of a range of activity-based challenges and providing evidence to demonstrate the following 6 different skills development at the appropriate level:
- Working with others
- Improving own learning & performance
- Problem solving
- Oral presentation
To do this, you need to complete a number of tasks or challenges from the modules in the student book. Remember that although you need to evidence 6 different skills you don't necessarily need to do 6 challenges, one challenge may provide evidence for 2 or more skills even. However, you must do a minimum of 3 different challenges.
As you complete the challenges you need to keep a record of this in your student book, you also need to complete all the paperwork and supply evidence for each of the skills. There are various ways you can give evidence; as well as submitting your own notes, paperwork, photos and plans there are compulsory template ASDAN evidence sheets to use. All this must be submitted as a portfolio of evidence.
Once you have completed all of the challenges you'll gather all the evidence sheets together with your student book and complete an assessment checklist before returning the whole portfolio to London HQ for assessment.
Portfolios are moderated by ASDAN 3 times a year; in June, December and March. Portfolios must be received in London at least 4 weeks before moderation otherwise they will not be marked until the following date – so do take this into consideration when planning your trip! After moderation, the certificates are then processed by ASDAN who pass them on to us and we will send these directly to you.
This qualification is available for Volunteer Research Assistants joining for longer than 4 weeks on group research projects.
How difficult is CoPE LEVEL 3 to pass?
Candidates are expected to work very independently on this qualification. Although you'll have assigned mentor/assessors in the field, and an advisor in London, you'll be required to think carefully and independently about which challenges you choose to meet the skills requirements and how you'll complete them. We cannot make the decisions for you, but we are here to advise and support!
