Voluntourism

Voluntourism has become increasingly popular in recent years.  Essentially, voluntourism is a type of responsible travelling where the tourist lives within the community they are visiting and offers their time by volunteering.  It is a great way for travellers to immerse themselves  in the local culture and to have a rewarding and unique travel experience.

What types of voluntourism can I get involved with?

Community voluntourism could involve a teaching or sports coaching placement; working with children or adults to improve their prospects.  Medical placements including medicine, physiotherapy and dentistry are also available, and specialists are often particularly needed.  Environmental or conservation voluntourism is also a speciality of Frontier's.  Living by the beach or in a rainforest conservation camp and working with staff and other participants, volunteers will work on various important initiatives to help with local and global conservation efforts.

Frontier's voluntourism placements

One of the main advantages of undertaking a voluntourism experience with Frontier is that our projects are sustainable.  Even on a shorter placement of one, two or three weeks, you can make a big difference as your programme will be structured and will feed in to ongoing projects aimed at protecting and developing environments and communities in the long term.  Interested?  There are hundreds of opportunities with Frontier, so take a look through our range of voluntourism experiences to find the perfect one for you.  Then just click “Apply Now” and submit a contact form.  One of our advisors will then walk you through the project details, answer any questions you may have and help you through the rest of the signup process.
