Volunteer With Elephants

Volunteering with elephants is a truly fascinating and rewarding experience, as these creatures are one of the most intelligent animals on earth with long memories and complex social relationships to one another. They are even considered sacred in Indian culture as they represent one of the most important Hindu gods – Ganesha. By choosing to volunteer with elephants you will learn about these animals’ truly amazing behaviour and what is needed of us to ensure their continued survival in the wild.

Why volunteer with elephants?

When you volunteer with elephants you’ll learn about all of the incredible things which they do to survive – including activities which not only preserve their own wellbeing but also that of other plant and animal species that share the same environment as them. For example elephants living in dry conditions tend to dig for water – which provides water to other species in the area as well. In addition they help to create pathways through vegetation which are used by other animals, and they also help the plants around them to flourish and spread as their dung is full of seeds. Volunteering with elephants is incredibly exciting and worthwhile, as they do so much for the ecosystem that they live in whilst being one of the most mistreated creatures on the planet.

Frontier's opportunities for volunteering with elephants

By choosing to volunteer with elephants you will be helping to protect these amazing animals whilst also exploring the area you are based in. Frontier has a variety of opportunities for volunteering with elephants – in countries such as Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and South Africa where we are partnered with local elephant sanctuaries. Programme activities include washing and feeding the elephants, park maintenance, assisting with conservation research, marketing and more. You can also choose to combine elephant care with other activities such as leopard conservation, community projects or jungle treks.
