Elephant Sanctuary

Elephants play a pivotal role in the environment that they live in, creating new paths in where they walk and helping the forests and savannas to regenerate when they feed by making space for new plants to grow. Unfortunately, poaching for ivory has hurt elephant numbers over recent years and left many elephants injured or orphaned. Thankfully, there are numerous elephant sanctuaries to help elephants that have suffered, nursing them back to health and even releasing some back into the wild. With Frontier, you can have the opportunity to volunteer at an elephant sanctuary and help to look after these majestic creatures.

Why volunteer at an elephant sanctuary?

Frontier has elephant sanctuary projects in beautiful and exotic destinations across the world including South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia and India. Volunteering on one of these projects will bring you up close and personal with these magnificent beasts. As a volunteer on an elephant sanctuary project, you may be able to wash and feed elephants, assist with research and data collection and maybe even learn about how some of the sanctuaries and parks are managed, all while living in stunning surroundings. Frontier also has some fantastic experiences and eco-trails where you could combine exploring a country with a few days of volunteering at an elephant sanctuary, all organised for you by Frontier. Trek through the Indonesian jungle or experience the rich and vibrant culture and food of Sri Lanka, and then top off your trip by spending some time at an elephant sanctuary.

Frontier's elephant sanctuary placements

Frontier offers placements on elephant sanctuary projects with a minimum of one, two or three weeks required, where you can not only get to know the individual personalities of the elephants that you are looking after but also experience the culture and give back to the local community. Volunteering at an elephant sanctuary will surely be a unique and unforgettable experience as well as a great addition to your CV!
