When you're looking through the website, you'll notice that there are three kinds of project to choose from: Frontier Partner projects, Frontier Group Projects and Frontier Connect Projects.
As the pioneer of eco-volunteering and ethical gap year travel, we have been approached by many organisations over the years for assistance with conservation and humanitarian projects across the globe as well as endless exciting travel opportunities. Frontier Connect projects aim to connect you with some of those amazing adventure travel providers and development NGO’s that we work with around the world. In this capacity Frontier Connect acts as an agent for suppliers seeking to promote their volunteering, internship and adventure travel opportunities on and through our website, as we help them to recruit enthusiastic participants. Once we have put you in contact with our partner NGO and confirmed your booking it is then down to you to coordinate your own travel, visas and arrival arrangements directly with the local supplier.
At Frontier, we're very careful about the organisations and projects we affiliate with and you can be confident that all projects promoted by Frontier meet our highest standards.
The Connect service attracts a registration fee for the booking service which enables Frontier to offer these fantastic programmes at incredibly competitive prices!
We advise that these projects are best suited to experienced travellers, mature individuals and group bookings.
On a Frontier Connect project, you will be welcomed and supported by the staff of the supplier and local community representatives. Host community members will offer advice and support and you will be looked after by your homestay family, a volunteer housekeeper, or landlady.
Depending upon which project you have signed up to, and what the supplier states is included in the cost of your project, you may either be offered delicious, authentic, home cooked meals, prepared by your homestay family / volunteer cook, or you may have the opportunity to sample local specialities from a street market or cook along with other project volunteers in the volunteer house. Please refer to the ‘What’s Included’ section of your project description on the Frontier website.
You'll be welcomed by the local community and encouraged to adopt the local customs, culture and traditions of your host country. We have a wide variety of both rural and urban locations for you to choose from so there is something for everybody.
You will have a bed in a volunteer house or in a welcoming homestay with access to a shower and other amenities.
You'll have free time to explore the sights, sounds and smells of your host country and enjoy the hospitality of your hosts.
