Marine Conservation Volunteering in Tenerife

As one of the world's top whale and dolphin watching destinations in the world, Tenerife is a truly outstanding location for the observation of wild whale and dolphin populations. There are resident communities of whales and dolphins which remain here throughout the year, and can be observed on perhaps 80% of the days of the year. There are also a great deal of other species migrating through these waters at different times of the year including blue whales, hammerhead sharks and orca.

Why volunteer with whales and dolphins in Tenerife?

If you plan to work in marine conservation in future, or if you are simly a fan of whales and dolphins and want to help conserve them, this placement is ideal. You will learn surveying techniques, put these into action and then get involved with cataloguing all these results for use in government-backed initiatives for conservation of these species

How long would i need to volunteer for?

You can volunteer on our whale and dolphin conservation placement from as little as one week. Volunteers on shorter placements can get a great feel for this kind of work so that they can decide whether they want to get involved in this kind of program further in the future.

Participants who are able to join for longer periods are able to get more heavily involved in the ongoing work and become truly intergrated into a ground-breaking marine conservation project. Longer duration participants are able to undertake a conservation internship and can even use their time in Tenerife to write a dissertation or thesis.

“I find it hard to just pick one moment that stood out because there were so many amazing moments in Tenerife. I will never forget my second day in Tenerife when we went kayaking with dolphins in Los Cristianos. Going up Mount Teide and doing the Masca trail were two other incredible moments. Seeing a whale for the first time on the boat survey was an unforgettable moment as well!” - Jaqueline Simoneau– Tenerife Whale and Dolphin Conservation
